Also you have omitted Joshua  who led the Hebrews into battle. Consisting of a group of ragamuffins he deafeated the people of the plains who had   superior technology. Iron Chariots were redndered useless as he fought a  gurella campagin from the Judean foothills securing Cannan for his people.

I'll look into de Valetter; I never got a chance to study the siege of Malta.

Joshua is #135.

If You mean there are too many Europeans and Northern Americans I agree with You though it is not that we underestimated Asians. It's just lack of knowledge about Asian history.

Greatest General? I think we have a proselytiser  for Islam here.

Been busy of late but I think I'll be in a position shortly to put the case against Timur being where he is on the list. Wink

Alp Arslan is also way too high, but he'll have to wait

I say old chap, what is the matter with all of you, it seems to me that you chaps are deluded by not being able to digest muslim history, I think that is why we are at dagger heads with your kind, do not warn me old boy, but you chaps should learn to be a bit more open in your approach in being able to learn about my culture, you close yourselves with the same old history books which I used to read at Public school.
I suggest you chaps open your eyes and realise there is more to life than just european GeneralsWink

Both Muhammad and Saladin are on the list of top 100 leaders in the General History section, which is where they belong because both were surpassingly successful political figures. Neither is on this list of generals because their military successes were more modest. In Muhammad's case, the scale of his military operations were smaller, and he often delegated military affairs to others. Saladin, meanwhile, was not a particularly gifted general at all - in fact, from a purely military point of view, his upstanding moral fibre was probably an impediment. He might have been able to put an end to Outremer if he had just had a little more killer instinct.

I tend to disagree regarding Saladin, he was a very witty person and always meant well, it was just that his love for Jerusalme was so intense that he overturned the crusaders with a blink of an eye, surely one must have deadly insticts when confronting your foes?
Muhammad on the other hand was a General who was also assisted by 5000 angels at the battle of Badr when He was outnumbered, one of the powers he had was that he threw some sand onto the enemies and all of them were blinded forthright, he was a general wh when at war was invincible and yes truly modest.

On Chinese generals, they are just outnumbered any other kingdoms or countries, since they exists like longer than any of them.

Li Jing should be just around Belisarius, defeated the Eastern Gokturk with only 5000 elite cavalry.

Su Dingfang achieved the rest of the glory for his conquer of the Western Gokturk, ensured Tang hegemony in Central Asia and fulfilled the process of self-aggrandisement of the state. In fact, his victory means that Tang was the most powerful empire on earth at the time.

Guo Ziyi was an excellent general for defeating the An Lushan rebellion. He was a loyal subject to the emperor even endured quite a lot of doubts and unjus acts.

Yue Fei is just amazing with 23 greatest battles. He has not been defeated in his real life.

Since you guys included Abaoji, you should have Wanyan Aguda, an excellent leader with deadly military technique which would be borrowed by the Mongols. He used only a small number of cavalry to wipe out the Liao and Northern Song dynasty.
